EDPC 610 - Week 1 - Self Introduction

Hello, everyone! My name is Elena Wiener. I live on Long Island with my husband, my dog and my one-year-old daughter, Samara.

If I were to write a book about myself, I would name it Elena Wiener – Life in Tech and Education. I am in the Childhood Education master’s program and I have a background in Information Management and Technology. I have my bachelor’s in IT and most of my experience is regarding web development. So far, I have completed one semester in my program and am very excited to continue this with an end-goal of completing my certification in Instructional Technology to become a computer lab teacher in an elementary school. I do not have much experience in new literacies or in language arts but am eager to learn and experience more. One concern I have is being able to balance having a 1-year old baby, taking these courses online full time and being able to attend field observation hours but I am definitely excited to figure it out!

Elena Wiener Field Observation Journal Entries EDPC 610 Summer 2019 Journal Entry 1: I am beginning my field observation in a school in North Bellmore called the Saw Mill Road Elementary School in a 4 th grade class taught by Mrs. Gallagher. The school is not particularly diverse, most students are Caucasian and from middle-class income families. From my first day I did notice a few things that stuck out to me about some students in particular.
